Volunteer Information
The Mercer-Lunsford Basketball League is an all volunteer organization. Volunteers for all positions are recruited on an annual basis. During registration, all parents have the opportunity to register to volunteer.
In order to volunteer, please indicate during your child's registration your interest in volunteering. We use that as the database to contact all of our volunteers.
- During the registration process, there is a check box and drop-down menu to select your volunteer interest.
- After Registration, you can log back into the system and complete the volunteer information by clicking the volunteer button next to your child's registration.
Below is the description of our volunteer positions:
- Coaches and Assistant Coaches
Teach the fundamentals of the game, run practices and games. All equipment is provided by the league. Training is provided by the league. Knowledge of the game is prefered but not required.
- Commitment: 1-2 practices per week (60-90 minutes each), plus games on Saturdays.
Attend coaches meeting, player evaluations and draft session
- Benefits: Choose your practice days and help the kids develop their skills
- Scorekeeper and Timekeepers
Keep the scorebook and clock for the games. Training is provided. Knowledge of the game is prefered but not required.
- Commitment: Work the scorer's table during the games
- Benefits: Guaranteed floor seats for every game
- Division Coordinator (Board Position)
- Commitment Attendance at six board meetings per year plus coaches meetings, evaluations, drafts and jamboree; some monitoring at the gyms during games; recruit coaches and maintain communication throughout the year; help with team formation and collect game scores
- Benefits: Help run the league, assist with getting the scores posted in a timely manner, registration discounts and work with a great leadership team
- Referees
Officiate the basketball games. Knowledge of the game is required.
- Commitment: Training session and work for our officials contractor (PVOA)
- Benefits: You get to sport a snazzy-looking uniform (stripes) and you get paid to exercize!
Note: This is a paid position, and we contract with PVOA for our officials. Your information will be redirected to PVOA.
- Jamboree Volunteer
Help with the kickoff Jamboree
- Commitment: Work on the day of the jamboree as well as planning ahead of the event
- Benefits: Help with this exciting kickoff event!
