Elementary House League

Preseason Evaluations will be earlier this year!

The SLB/MLBL House League Evaluation process is being modified starting with the 2017-18 season.  The player evaluation process will take place September 23 and September 30.  All players (house and travel) will be required to attend one of the initial evaluation sessions.  Travel players (grade 5 only) will be invited to supplemental tryouts based on the results of the initial evaluation.  House league teams will be formed at the end of October after the travel selections have concluded.

Program Overview

The South Loudoun Basketball Elementary house league program is designed for kids in grades 3-5 and provides an inclusive recreational basketball program. The Elementary league is intended to focus on player development in a safe, fun and positive environment.   While we do encourage our teams to play hard and win, the primary focus is to have fun and learn the game of basketball.

Training

At the beginning of the season, we will schedule a training session for all Elementary House League players.  The purpose of the training session is to provide a foundation for the coaches and players for the season.  SLB/MLBL will contract a trainer to provide this skills development program, scheduled for the first Saturday of the season.  Each team will be assigned a designated time to attend the training session.

Evaluations

Evaluations are done at the beginning of the season for all Elementary House League participants.   We use the evaluation results to help us try and maintain parity within the division and grade level.  All kids who are registered on time are guaranteed to be placed on a team.

Evaluations are scheduled to take place the last weekend of September through the first weekend in October.  Players are expected to attend one evaluation session at the designated time.  Schedules will be finalized and posted by early-September.

Division Structure/Placement

We have single grade-level divisions in the Elementary House League program.  We will subdivide the teams into East and West geographic divisions for ease of scheduling.  In some cases, geographic divisions may be combined due to low enrollment.

The division commissioners and coaches select teams through a pre-season draft process based on the evaluation results, with the goal of maintatining parity within the division(s).  For this reason, we do not guarantee any requests for a certain coach, or for players to play together.

Season and Schedule

Season runs mid-November through mid-March.  The player clinic is scheduled for the first Saturday of the season in mid-November.  Team practices are 1-2 nights per week, 50 minutes per session.  Practices are scheduled between 6:15pm and 9:45pm (generally earlier for the Elementary divisions) at local Elementary and Middle Schools.  The scheduled practice nights and times are based on the coach's availability.   A scrimmage game is scheduled for the first weekend in December, followed by regular season games from December-February, excluding the winter holiday break.  The season ends with a post-season tournament which runs through early-March.  Click here for the MLBL Scheduling Site.

 All Stars

The coaches and division commissioners select all-star teams from each division.  The all star players will represent their team and will participate in an end of season exhibition game.  Players who are selected to the all-star team will receive a t-shirt in recognition of their accomplishment.
